Interact Conference Celebrates Student Volunteerism and Community Impact

The Interact Conference drew strong participation at Oakville Trafalgar High School on April 11, 2026, bringing together students, Rotary leaders and community volunteers to celebrate service and the impact of youth-led initiatives.

Honoured guest Susanne Zbibden, 7080 District Governor, delivered an inspirational address highlighting the importance of volunteerism and the difference young people can make in their communities.

Nine high schools participated in the Grant Writing program, known as GWi. Through the program, more than $10,000 will be distributed to charities addressing community needs, thanks to the efforts of Interact teams.

As part of their service projects, Interactors raised funds and collected essential items including food, clothing, diapers and school supplies for charities in their communities. Students also prepared and submitted grant applications through the GWi competition to help meet the needs of their selected charities. Along the way, they developed valuable skills in writing, leadership and teamwork.

The Rotary Club of Mississauga supported the Rick Hansen Secondary School Interact team, which raised $1,000 to help fight food insecurity in partnership with Food Banks Mississauga.

Also attending the conference were Uche Okugo, District Governor, along with Lorraine Crow and Miles Ross, founders of the GWi program.

The conference showcased the power of collaboration between Rotary, schools and community organizations, while recognizing the commitment of young volunteers working to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
