Interactors of Central Peel Secondary School were able to raise over $2,200 through a go-fund-me page which provided two instant microbial water filters to two maternity units in two hospitals in Nigeria. The students also provided 100 breastfeeding mothers living in an IDP camp in Nigeria with soap for sanitation and improved hygiene.
The Rotary Club of Brampton supports the Interact club and sponsored an educational program for students through EKCEP (Environfocus Knowledge and Cultural Exchange Program). EKCEP provided the fundamental knowledge and skills via the completion of a nine-week series of engaging learning experiences. The goal was for students to develop an understanding of how young people can contribute to the achievement of the United Nation's 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals. EKCEP’s program focuses on leadership skills and builds student’s enthusiasm to transfer and apply their knowledge for the benefit of local and international communities.
The experience also provided Interactors an opportunity to engage in fundraising, which supported developing countries (in this case Nigeria) lacking in social welfare systems with much needed assistance during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The participating students were Interact club members in Grades 9 to 11. A total of 21 students participated in the program. All students are in the International Baccalaureate program under the Peel Public School Board. This program provided an opportunity for the students to explore various cultures and standards of living with an eye to improving living standards across continents.
