PEACE BEGINS WITH YOU: DISTRICT 7080 CONFERENCE CELEBRATES THE POWER OF PEOPLE, PARTNERSHIPS AND PURPOSE
What happens when more than 250 people from different countries, professions, cultures and backgrounds come together with one shared aspiration? An inspiring celebration of peace, leadership and the power of collective action!
Rotary District 7080's District Conference, themed "Peace Begins With You," brought together Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, community leaders and guests from across the globe, including the USA, Taiwan and Nigeria, for a memorable experience of learning, fellowship and connection.
The conference featured two thought-provoking panel discussions and six distinguished speakers, exploring the role of individuals, institutions and international partnerships in building a more peaceful world.
The first panel, "Peace Through Health," brought together an impressive blend of Rotary and humanitarian leadership, including the Rotary International Director for Zones 28 and 32, the Co-Chair of Rotary International's PolioPlus Committee, a Past District Governor of District 5040 and the Founder of WASHRAG. Moderated by a Past District Governor of District 7080, the discussion highlighted how access to healthcare, clean water, sanitation and global partnerships can advance peace and strengthen communities.
The second panel, "Leadership in an Uncertain World," featured the German Ambassador, the Mayor of the City of Kitchener and Canada's Senior Trade Commissioner to Chicago. Moderated by the CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the conversation explored leadership, diplomacy, international trade and the importance of collaboration in navigating today's rapidly changing world.
The Conference also hosted a Rotary Friendship Exchange team from Taiwan, and had Interactors participate too - both happening for the first time in District 7080!
Beyond the insightful conversations, the conference offered a vibrant House of Friendship, opportunities to build new relationships, reconnect with friends, celebrate Rotary's impact and, of course, enjoy great food!
More than a conference, it was a reminder that peace is not simply the absence of conflict; it is something we actively build through our everyday choices, our relationships and our willingness to serve.
The climax was the unveiling of an eight-foot high Peace Pole, with "May Peace Prevail on Earth" written in eight languages.
Peace begins with you. Peace begins with me. And together, through Rotary, we can make it happen as we Create Lasting Impact!
