August 2019

7080 Connects
Wow...we’re already into our second month! Summer is in full swing…and we’re grateful for the warm (dare I say “hot”) weather. This month, Aziz and I have attended club changeovers and Ribfests… all awesome Rotary events….and there’s more to come in August, September and beyond! We’re looking forward to the cluster celebrations which are being planned by the assistant governors and club presidents. These will be wonderful opportunities to invite potential members and local dignitaries – to show them how Rotarians do good in their local communities and around the world. It’s time to brag and tell our communities more about our great organization. Looking forward to connecting over the next few months!

Quote of the Month “So long as there is one hungry child, one ignorant man, one discouraged youth, so long as there is misunderstanding or conflict anywhere, so long as there is a choice friend who has not yet been found, there is a reason for Rotary.” – Richard L. Evans, RI President 1966-67

RI Monthly Theme: Membership & New Club Development Month

August is Membership and New Club Development month, which means it’s time to celebrate our Rotary and Rotaract clubs, our members, and the good we do in our communities and around the globe. It’s also time to work on strengthening and growing our membership by focusing on the vibrancy of our club meetings and events.

I found this interesting photo and note from the Joseph A. Caulder Collection – Past RI Director 1928-29.

2019 Council on Legislation (CoL)
The 2019 Council on Legislation may not have made as many dramatic changes as the 2016 Council, but it made several decisions that will shape the future of Rotary and Rotaract.

A Message from the District Rotaract Representatives: Pari & Jananee

Engagement is key!

Here are some tips on how to strengthen relationships with Rotaract clubs!
  • Attend a Rotaract meeting. This gives Rotaractors a chance to hear from their sponsor club and learn about upcoming Rotary events they can attend.
  • If you are the sponsor club, invite Rotaractors to your meetings once a quarter or twice a year to provide updates and learn new insights. This is especially beneficial to Rotaractors aspiring to join Rotary.
  • Work together with Rotaract clubs on service projects and professional development opportunities.
  • Explore the opportunity of dual memberships with Rotaractors.
  • Extend an invite to Rotaract Club Presidents to join Cluster Meetings and invite Rotaract Clubs to any upcoming cluster events.
Save the Date - May 30th, 2020 - D7080 District Conference - Bingemans in Kitchener

It's going to be a blast... something really different and memorable…in a good way!  Let’s connect at our District Conference at the end of May next year for a final District 7080 event before several Rotarians and Rotaractors head out in June to the RI Convention in Honolulu.  There will be inspiring speakers, performances and a team building service project…one you’ll want your whole club to attend! We’ll also celebrate our Awards and District Changeover event – two district-wide events for the price of one!  Book the date in your calendar now so you don’t miss out. To find out how your club can actively participate, email the D7080 Conference Chair at adgrotary@gmail.com.
Flamingo Challenge

Connecting Through Cluster Celebrations

By now, most of you know about Barry Rassin’s Flamingo photo in last year’s Rotarian magazine – the one flamingo who is walking in the opposite direction to all the others…looking for a better way.  This year, as part of the Flamingo Challenge, we are trying out different ideas – looking for better ways to strengthen and grow our clubs, and new ways to connect. Governor visits to joint club meetings is being encouraged by RI…so we’re walking down that path with you this year through cluster celebrations.

End Polio Now

Thank you so much for all you did last year to eradicate polio. Our clubs really worked hard at the end of the year to make sure that we made the $50 million Gates Match…and we did it! 24 of our D7080 clubs donated $1,500 US dollars or more. Thank you all

Ideas Page

What have you done differently to make guests want to join your club?  It’s a great question, and one that PDG Ian Ferguson’s club in New Brunswick asks their members at the end of every meeting.  Have we looked at our club through the eyes of a visitor? What have we tried that is different? To help capture your great ideas, we’re developing an Ideas page for our District website so you can connect with others to share your ideas.  Together we succeed.

Have an awesome August. Connect soon!
