District 7080
June 2019

News & Views Bulletin
It has been an honour and privilege ...
... to have served as the 2018-19 Governor for our Rotary District 7080 … you have been my inspiration!
Rotary International asked us to “Be the Inspiration”.  You have more than delivered.  Our district executive and committees have together made impressive gains to serve your strategic priorities.   Club presidents have responded by building on past achievements, and leading the effort to adapt and change in a manner that will better meet the evolving needs of our members …  and those that are less fortunate.

Our sharing and participation across the district is making for better and more effective projects.   As an example, our microfinance project in Honduras has seen participation by more than 80% of our clubs … perhaps a model of collaboration that can deliver larger and more sustainable results.

Your contributions this year will not go unnoticed.  Countless hours of selfless service have truly transformed the lives of others.  In addition, monetary commitments have set a record.   Since inception of district “Million Dollar” fundraisers benefiting your Rotary Foundation, no single district in Zone 24 East has raised more during a campaign than District 7080 … over $3.5 Million (Canadian) this year.  Thank you to our campaign committee and our very generous members and friends of Rotary.

As we reflect on our achievements, know that we still have much to do, and the role of Rotary has never been more important.  We are very fortunate to have Lesley as our incoming Governor.  I have yet to find anyone more committed to the ideals of Rotary.  Please welcome and support her initiatives.  Let’s continue to build a stronger Rotary … a Rotary that “Connects the World”.

Rotarians and friends of Rotary have made major financial contributions to our Rotary Foundation, raising more than $3.5 Million (Canadian) during our District Million Dollar Campaign!  A huge thank you to all donors and committee members.  Plans for a Million Dollar Gala have commenced to celebrate the achievement, and recognize respective donors.  Information to follow.  Did I say Thank You?

East Coast Kitchen Party ... table auction
At our last Presidents' meeting, George Vincent mentioned the Rotary fund raiser he attended in London on May 10 – the theme was East Coast Kitchen Party.  It was a “cluster” event – jointly sponsored by a few London clubs.  The unique part was the silent auction online application.  You could participate in the silent auction from your table and received notifications if you were outbid.  You could also simply make donations to Polio Plus through the app… Very cool.  Here is a link ...
